Artist Talk, Jazz and Babbling at Culture Centre Laikku

The Tampere Jazz Happening programme will expand to Culture Centre Laikku with two special accompanying events.

On the opening day of the festival, French bassist Claude Tchamitchian will visit Café Laikku. The event will feature a short performance by Tchamitchian, followed by an interview in which he will discuss his work In Spirit and his eventful visits to Finland. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The interviewer will be journalist Harri Uusitorppa.

On the closing day of the festival, Sunday, the Music Hall at Culture Centre Laikku will host two concerts that combine the voices of babies of different ages with jazz improvisation by saxophonist Sami Sippola. In August 2026, two different sound art works were created from recordings made by families of the youngest customers of the Rulla Children’s Culture Centre. One of these works will receive its world premiere at Tampere Jazz Happening. The sound works focus on the delightful laughter, babbling and other vocalisations of babies and toddlers as they respond to and engage with the world around them. The works were created by sound designer Edit Viljamaa. Listeners of all ages are welcome at the concerts, including the very youngest members of the family.
