Tampere City Strategy 2030

Tampere Music Festivals is a part of the City of Tampere’s public cultural services. Our policies and practices are based on the 2030 strategy of the City of Tampere, which states the following: “We carry our responsibility of wellbeing and environment by operating in an ecologically, socially, culturally, and economically sustainable ways. We advance equality and safety with our activities.”

On this page, we have summarized information on the practical responsibility actions that the Tampere Music Festivals organisation implements in its daily operations.

Social sustainability

We are committed to proactively advancing equality, and we have guidelines in place for reporting and addressing inappropriate behaviour.

We offer internships to students, including those who speak Finnish as a second language and individuals from minority backgrounds.

Information about accessibility is available on our website.

Part of our festival programme is always free of charge.

At our events, we take into account the health and safety aspects of the visitor experience. Earplugs are available at events where sound levels may pose a risk to hearing.

We actively promote equality and non-discrimination, and have appointed a harassment contact person who can be reached in cases of inappropriate behaviour.

Environment and climate

We encourage festival visitors to travel to the event using environmentally sustainable means by actively sharing information about public transport options to the venues.

Our catering and partner restaurants always offer at least one savoury and one sweet vegan option on their menus.

Our operations do not generate ingredient or food waste, and any surplus portions are donated.

We avoid the use of plastic utensils. Where necessary, we use biodegradable alternatives.

Some of the materials produced for the event are reusable or made from recycled sources.

At our office, waste is sorted, and there are clear instructions provided for recycling. There is also a communal bookshelf where employees can exchange books, CDs, jewellery and other small items.

We have calculated the carbon footprint of an individual visitor, which amounts to 31.6 kg CO₂e. The total emissions of the entire festival correspond to the annual carbon footprint of 19 average Finns. (The calculation is from 2022 and was carried out by Positive Impact as part of the “Carbon Footprint of Live Music” project led by the Finnish Jazz Federation.)
